A message to the

Parents Association

Hello to all parents of both Holy Family JNS & Our Lady of Mercy SNS.

We, as the combined Parents Council welcome this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and going forward we will give brief updates on our activities, one of which is fundraising.

Our first fundraising event of this school year was a sponsored walk, for all girls, from the new Junior Infants right up to the 6th class pupils. It was a successful kick-start to our 2019/20 funds. Better again the girls enjoyed a lovely autumnal walk in the fresh air with their teachers and SNAs.

Support for

Parents

A special feature of our school is the involvement of parents in school activities. Areas of parental involvement include:- arts and crafts, Maths for Fun, computers, Christmas Cake Sale/Funday, listening to reading, making costumes for concerts, accompanying children to church and many more day to day activities. Courses are organised for Parents by the Home/School Liaison Teacher:

Ms. Susan Sheppard - Phone 087 7544140. Watch out for letters and posters on school notice boards and doors. Visitation of homes is conducted by the Home/School Liaison Teacher. Come to the Parents Room at any time for a chat and a ‘cuppa’. There is an active Parent’s Council in the school. They are wonderful to fundraise and also organise the children’s Christmas Toy & Cake Sale. They also play an important role in endorsing school policy.

Fundraisers

The Parents Councils’ fundraising contributes to the varied needs of the schools. Anything from contributing to recent refurbishments of the school hall stage to subsidising swimming lessons to funding the production of literature for incoming Junior Infants’ parents.  All of the above benefit the pupils so we appreciate your support.

We will keep you updated about future fundraisers. New members and ideas are always welcome so everyone is invited to our AGM which takes place on 22nd of October @7pm in the school hall. We’d love to see you there.

Túsla School

Attendance Campaign

Our school has registered for the Túsla national attendance campaign Every School Day Counts which will run for November 2019. This campaign focuses on improving attendance to ensure children get the most out of their time in education.

Tips on How Parents Can Help  Make Every School Day Count:

  • Establish a good routine in the mornings and evenings so your child is prepared for the school day ahead.
  • Make sure your child goes to school regularly and follows the school rules.
  • Ensure your child arrives at school on time – not late.
  • Arrange dental and medical appointments outside school hours when possible.
  • Always inform the school if your child is absent due to illness – this should be followed up with a written note when your child returns to school.
  • Take truancy seriously – if your child is not attending school as you expect they may be putting themselves at risk – Who are they with? What are they doing?
  • Take family holidays outside term time.
  • Talk to your child about school and take an interest in their school work (including homework).
  • Attend parent evenings and school events.
  • Praise and reward your child’s achievements at school.
  • Always support school staff in their efforts to control difficult or challenging behaviour.
  • Discuss any problems or difficulties with the school – staff are there to help and will be supportive.
